Catherine's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
Focusing on Compassion and Love
The focus of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to widen access to music lessons.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.
A Sisterly Duo
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Attending the service will be people from various age groups.
That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
