It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
